Background This study uses the expertise of an ethnomusicologist who preexisting music in brain as cue to trigger autobiographical memories her own mother struggling with dementia. Method By adapting a methodology Ethnomusicology involving autobiography one’s history, I set up experiment for another conduct. Dividing into discrete time periods (infancy, childhood, teenager, young adult, older adult), delineated specific songs or pieces powerful meanings patient those be played. The responses on video was then recorded. Result Each had some level recognition by Alzheimer’s patient, stronger than others. Other attendant contextual surfaced during experiment, suggesting recall, despite weakened sense and space after onset Alzheimer’s. Conclusion single case needs broadened larger scale many participants assess efficacy this ethnomusicological-derived approach improve recall abilities among patients. also makes it possible families engage process using patients’ neural pathways. offers collaborative efforts between Neurology running clinical trials develop memory processes therapy.
